switching between email accounts

Not sure what it is that you want to change or fix.

Windows Mail can have as many email accounts as you want.
It will poll the accounts sequentially, and if any accounts have mail,
it will be downloaded to the common Inbox. When you click Reply,
it will use the account identity associated with the download account.

So, what part of this process is mysterious or undesirable?

I have the same question. My wife and I had separate accounts with Outlook
Express. We had our email separate and in OE it also had separate idenities
with passwords. I created another account in Vista (Windows Mail) with my
wifes name and email address and left the (remember password) left unchecked
hoping that account(1) would need her password. Well it seems that does not
work. I never saw another folder or inbox created. What got created when I
created account (1)?

Thanks

Creating another account in Windows Mail does not create any
new folders or inboxes. All it does is add the second account under
Tools, Accounts. Both accounts are then polled at the server for new mail.

You can easily create additional folders, such as His_Mail, Her_Mail.
Then, to get really fancy, you can have new mail automatically directed
into those folders by using Message Rules (filters), such as:

1. Where the message is from the His account
move it to the His_Mail folder
and stop processing more rules.

2. Where the message is from the Her account
move it to the Her_Mail folder
and stop processing more rules.

The Identities feature is gone in Vista unless you get my WMIDs program
(www.oehelp.com/WMIDs/).

So if you want to have segregated message stores for you versus your wife,
the only way to do that is to set up as different users and logon for you
and logon for your wife. Then you can under your logon set up your account
and under your wife's logon setup her account. Then you switch users to
access the various messages for each.

Alternatively, you can have just one user logon and set up both accounts
under that user. So in WinMail you would go to Tools | Accounts | Add |
Mail and add your mail account and then Tools | Accounts | Add | Mail and
add her account. Then when you send and receive, you will download the
messages for both accounts and they will go into the single inbox. You can
segregate the messages by setting up message rules similar to what Gary
indicated. (also see http://www.mindspring.com/~oe_oh). But you have to
create the rules to do that. The messages will not be segregated otherwise.

If you mean that you have 3 email accounts set up under one Vista user, then
all you have to do when composing a message, is to click on the From: bar
and select which account you want to send from.

If you want to separate the 3 accounts incoming email, then you have to
create different folders, and create rules to move the messages into the
appropriate folder, based on the recipient.
