Swiff Point Player destabilizes PPT03

I just discovered that SwiffPointPlayer from GlobFX (a plug-in for PowerPoint
that helps import Flash movies) disables some of the editing features in
PowerPoint 2003 Pro. Specifically, when the plug-in is installed, you cannot
double-click objects to format them, nor can you double-click a slide in
Slide Sorter and have it open the slide in Edit Mode. (I wrote about this
earlier.)

I know there are other methods for inserting a Flash movie on a slide, but
SwiffPointPlayer was one of the most elegant ways I'd found to do it...and
now I'm a little gun-shy of the other methods, much less any other plug-ins
for PPT.

Has anyone else run into problems with third-party plug-ins and PPT03? Are
there other workarounds for SwiffPointPlayer? (Fortunately, the Player is
easy to uninstall and reinstall, so I could go that route if I need to, but
obviously I'd rather not.)

Thanks! I've just written GlobFX about the issue. Meanwhile, I'll use this
method, though it's kind of a pain, comparatively.

Did you notice that the Swiff Point Player says that it is for Microsoft
PowerPoint 2000/XP? No mention of 2003. And in the FAQ it says, "Swiff Point
Player does not support PowerPoint 97 or earlier versions. Only PowerPoint 2000
and PowerPoint XP are supported. "

I'd been thinking about buying this. Nice thing about Swiff Point Player is
that it was a free plug-in.

Thanks for posting about your experience with the other add-in. Might help
explain some other users' difficulties with some double-click behavior.

If it's any comfort, I've just tested the GlobFX player in PowerPoint 2000,
2002, and 2003 and get the same results as you in each version. It seems that
they've hijacked the double click function in PowerPoint. Maybe they don't know
it's value. <G>
