Swen Round 3

Ok I have now made sure I have everything enabled- about 3
firewalls, I've done a virus check -no sign of the virus
on my computer and my antivirus seems to be catching the
Swen infected emails, but they are still being delivered
to my inbox. How do I prevent this from happening. I've
gone from having 20 to 80 to 100+ infected emails in my
box jamming it up. I've also done a properties check of
the incoming messages and done a partial check of ISP
location with the use of Arin Whois Datebase Search. What
else can I do?? Please help.

That's about all you can do. You can't stop them from sending the e-mails -
most of them are sent from some shithole ISPs in Asia and Eastern Europe.
There is no way to track them. You can create a filter that will delete
them as soon as they arrive if your e-mail client supports it.

There is about nothing you can do to prevent these 'radioactive'
(as someone here put it earlier) mails from reaching your mailbox.
The only thing you can do if you don't want to download the mes-
sages to your computer is either apply filter rules to your ac-
count via your provider's filtering options (if available) or
connect to your mailbox via IMAP (if available) and apply filter
rules using your email program.
I've
gone from having 20 to 80 to 100+ infected emails in my
box jamming it up.

In what period of time? I probably received some 2,000 of them
now in four days' time, and I know of people whose count of this
crap has exceeded 15,000 so far :(

I like your decent denomination of criminal ISP organizations. Maybe Jupiter
will threaten you to be removed :)))

But two more action can be advised:

1) In Outlook or Outlook Express click: Tools/Accounts/Newsgroup(s) (one by
one)/Properties/make fake user info like mine

2) Change your real e-mail address and never ever use it again in newsgroups
or other open forums.

Learned this in the hard way, nobody helped me in this group, the MVPs were
just beating around the bush with boring generic nonsense!

Greetings --

You're receiving these emails because your email address is in
the address book of someone infected with a worm, and/or because you
posted your real email address somewhere on-line, either in a forum
accessible to the public and spambots, such as Usenet, or on an
untrustworthy web site that subsequently sold your address as part of
a mailing list. One thing you can do is notify _everyone_ with whom
you've ever corresponded via email that one or more of them may be
infected with a mass emailing worm, and should take the appropriate
steps.

There's probably no way of blocking all of the bogus messages, but
you can greatly reduce the number you get by creating a rule, based
upon the most commonly used subject lines, to delete the emails from
the server without ever downloading them.
