Swen-related question

When I get to the System Properties pop-up by either of
several ways, and click on the System Restore tab, it
won't open and I get an error message saying "Run DLL as
an APP has encountered a problem... ." Hence, I am not
able to turn off the Restore function so that I can run
the Swen virus/worm fixit at:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.h
tml which takes care of the inablitity to run the
regedit.exe but not the inability to shut-off the Restore
by following their instructions. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

System restore needs to be turned off so the file is clean.
But system restore can be turned off after you run the fix,
then run the fix again.
besides the Norton/Symantec tools, McAfee/NAI has the
Stinger tool which will clean an array of viruses at one
time. Check the security tab at www.nai.com

It think you can clean your active system by using the tools
from either www.sarc.com or
www.nai.com (security tab/tools) to get the STINGER tool.
Stinger will remove many different viruses at one time, the
SARC tools remove a single virus each. Stinger will fit on
one floppy so you can download it on any computer and run it
on the infected machines.
On the NAI site there are special instructions for ME/XP
which deal with the "system restore"

You can clean the system, then deactivate system restore
because the problem with system restore is that it CAN
infect if you run system restore.

| Jim Macklin, I can't bring up your posted response.
| Would you try again? Thank you.
