jeff

First off....not using Anti-virus software....yeah yeah yeah......consider
me converted now.

a) I am getting the SWEN emails daily. so I would assume that I have the
SWEN virus.
b) browser on my desktop computer is insanely slow...I have my laptop hooked
up also to a Cable modem through a router and it is fine
c) When I try to right click to save a pic it says "untitled and wants to
save it as a bitmap" I removed the damaged downloaded files but it never
worked as per the Online help from Microsoft
d) I am trying to download free antivirus software however everytime I click
on a link it says "Internet Explorer was not able to open the site". It does
the same for videos also.
e) I tried emailing myself a virus scanner that I had downloaded from my
laptop however my ISP says it containes the Mal virus. (Avast)
Help??????????

Go and buy from www.nod32.com their virus scanner version 2 and install it.
Will solve your issues.
Do a boot into safe mode and scan your computer completely. Should clean
it up.

you may not have the swen worm tho - it sends itself out to anyone and
everyone - just because you receive emails, does not mean you are
infected.

However, some of your other problems might indicate some problems -
have you tried an online scanner first - trend or others - do a
google search for online scanners and try one maybe ?

Won't solve your issues, you're getting wormed by others who are sending
you sven laden virus. Of course, you might also have some other problem and
you certainly should run a virus check. There is nothing you can do to stop
receiving these emails. If you use something like mailwasher, you can
identify and delete messages on the server. Problem is your email address
has been harvested either by using your real email address in a newsgroup or
from an infected person's address book. If it's any comfort you are not
alone.

you assume wrong... just because other machines are sending it to you
doesn't mean you are infected...

possibly something wrong with your browser on that computer... you
might look into reinstalling it or maybe installing an alternative
browser...

it's not unheard of for one anti-virus to falsely detect viruses in
other anti-virus products - at the most abstract level scanners are
comparing the object they're scanning with something from a known virus...

all that being said, you might have a virus but if you can't get an
anti-virus product of some sort on it you'll never know for sure...
what kind of capabilities does your laptop have with regards to writing
to removable media (floppy disks, cdr, etc)? you might use one of those
methods to move diagnostic software onto the problem computer...

You don't need to be infected. SWEN is sent by infected systems but
you may just be at the receiving end. It is very easy to avoid SWEN.
Just set you e-mail client to only accept messages sent to your real
addresses. Leave everything else on the server and delete them using a
suitable application.

Get yourself some AV software just in case.
