Swapping HD's

I would like to swap present OS hard drive with a newer one.
Can I use WinXPpro to clone it and how to reassign volume letter after ?

Most new drives come with a migration utility - if not on disk with the
drive then on their site. You can do so with a variety of backup tools as
well so I'll give you that link;

Why swap? Why not just put your new disk in as a second drive. What would
you lose / gain?
