Swap File Won't Change

I just built a new machine, Athlon 64X dual core 4200 with 2 gigs ram, XP
Pro SP2, DFI Lan Party Nf4 SLI -DR Expert board with dual Geforce 7800 video
cards. XP set the pagefile to 2046 initial and I change it to the
recommended 3069, however it will not take.
Yes I rebooted immediately. It says the file is set to 3069-4092 but the
current size is still 2046. I checked the registry entries and they are all
set to 3069-4092.

Any ideas?

Yes. I had the same problem, but it's actually quite simple. Windows XP
cannot address more than 4GB of RAM physical and virtual combined. Just be
glad you didn't buy 4 like me. My available memory always shows 3 because 1
is dedicated to the Swap File and subtracted from available physical RAM.

You want to get rid of your annoying 2 gigs? :P
So it's basically just an OS issue and nothing can be done? Got a link I
could read about it?

I know that setting a hard page file versus dynamic represents a performance
boost, but you're not going to be able to create one greater than 2 GB
regardless of what you set it to. This is because you have 2GB of physical
RAM and together with your page file you cannot exceed 4 GB of addressable
memory. Refer to Byte's link in this thread (despite his devotion to small
symantics around naming).

Thanks to both of you, I will read the link later. Now I am going to play Q4
on my new machine :)
<remembering when 64 MB's of RAM was hot stuff>

I do remeber when we paid $1800 for a memory board with 64KB on it. Prices
certainly have declined.
