Swap file and defragging

I want to put the swap file on it's own partition and then defrag the
frimary partition. How should I go about doing this?

You don't want to put your swap file on a different partition
on the same drive. It will hinder performance due to increased seek time.

10 gig would be more like it. In any case, dont put the swap file on
another partition on the same physical drive windows is on as it will
only degrade performance.

Putting the page file on a separate partition is *not* a good
idea. It puts it farther from the other frequently-used data on
the drive, increases head movement to and from it, and therefore
decreases performance.

Putting it (or most of it) on a separate *physical* drive, can be
good, since that *decreases* head movement, but not a separate
partition on your only (or main) drive.

He undoubtedly means 10GB. Yes, it will degrade performance, and
it will also tie up 10GB of disk space for nothing, since he will
never use that much.

First, how much RAM do you have and what apps do you run? But
almost regardless of the answer, it's hard to imagine that you
would ever need more than 2GB, at the outside.

Make sure you keep a small page file on drive C: also.

I wouldn't reserve any amount of space. There's no advantage to
having it on a partition of its own, and doing so either
restricts how large it can get, or unncessarily ties up space
you'll never use. Just put it on the second drive in the existing
partition, but make sure you keep a small page file on drive C:
also.

If you insist on putting it in a separate partition, first tell
