Hi to all

Just a simple question to better manage my win 2K Pro

Who can tell me what is svshot.exe

In the program list I can see several instances of this system prog. Some of them use until 61 Mo ram. I use very often a P2P soft to DL softwares and AVI files. Is is a normal situation to have 4 or 5 instance of this program

My system use a AMD Athlon XP2200+ processor and sometimes I've some perf prob. The system uses until 450 Mo RAM just for having the P2P soft running

Thanks to everybody for my information

Francisco.

If you've spelt the offending file's name correctly (svshot.exe),
it's probably a virus or backdoor supplied along with your P2P
application. It's certainly not a valid Windows file.

If you've mis-spelt the file name and meant "svchost.exe," It's
perfectly normal to have several instances of Svchost.exe running
simultaneously.

However, if Svchost.exe is using a large portion of your CPU
cycles, it has most likely been "hijacked" by a worm or Trojan. Have
you tried using a decent antivirus application with the most
currently-available virus definition files? A strong candidate would
be W32.Welchia.Worm.

W32.Welchia.Worm a.k.a. W32/Nachi.Worm

Because many of the newer viruses and worms can disable antivirus
applications whose definitions weren't up-to-date, try using one or
more of the free on-line scanners to double-check your system.
