When restarting my computer, I can not connect to the internet
until I go to Windows Task Manager, processes and disable svchost.exe that
has the user name of networking. Once I disable this, all is fine.
I have a cable modem. I use Norton's internet security and it does not
detect that I have a virus. This just recently started doing this after I
got
all the new windows updates.
Can anyone tell me how this can be fixed?
Thanks,
Teresa

I went to the symantec site and scanned for security issues and viruses.
It said I was safe and free from any security issues or viruses.
Next suggestion?

Since you said you used Norton AV -- Use Panda's and Trends scanners please.

Okay, I used both and they say I am clean. I restarted my computer again
and it still did the same thing. Any more suggestions?
Thanks,
Teresa

I had the exact same problem on my son's computer running XP Pro. Did
everything I could think of and could find on the Newsgroups. Ran two
different Antivirus programs on his computer. Could never fix the problem
or find the cause of the problem. I gave up and re-installed XP after
trying for two months.

From http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/svshost/

Process File: svshost or svshost.exe
Process Name: Svshost
Description: Added to the system as a result of Worm.P2P.Spybot.gen virus.
This virus spreads through peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing, rather than through
open Windows file shares. The infected systems are scanned for unprotected
Windows file shares.
Company: N/A
System Process: No
Security Risk ( Virus/Trojan/Worm/Adware/Spyware ): Yes
Common Errors: N/A

have you run adaware and spybot?

Yes, I have run adaware and spybot. They have supposedly gotten rid of
anything that was on my computer.

The file SVSHOST.EXE is not a Windows system file (it merely looks like
SVCHOST.EXE which IS). So you can safely track it down and delete it.
