Hello
I currently run win pro on my pc and have within the last two weeks reformatted my hd. The problem i am having is that when my computer is idle and connected to the internet i am sending and recieving packets over the internet that are not warranted. The amount of data sent is excessive and has led me to find where and why this is occuring. I have downloaded every service pack and windows security update possible so i have rules out windows update running in the back ground. I have relaised through end applications in windows task manager to see whatw ould stop the transfer of data.
One of the four SVCHOSTS running on my computer stops the netwok transfer.
i was wondering if someone can help me to stop my computer sending and recieving data when it is running idle.

thankyou, greatly appreciated

I'd scan the suspect computer for viruses, adware and spyware.

You can find many antivirus scanners online (which may or may not be able to
spot an active infection but it's certainly worth a try), or install
antivirus on a known-clean computer and use the rescue/scan diskettes from
this system to scan the suspect computer (MUCH more likely to be accurate).

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ offers a free spyware/adware scanner. Download
and install it, then update it and clean up the suspect computer.

I don't find any "RASMNG" file, but a "RASMGR" that is legitimate. If you
do have a RASMNG running on your system I'd wonder where it came from.

Thanks richard,

I have tried what you suggested and in addition installed a port scanner
(diamondcs) to monitor packets ingoing and outgoing. the virus scanner
returned clean resluts whilst the adware and spyware blocked certain items.
Since the running of the soyware my virus scanner is not protecting me
against emails canning. however that is a seperate issue. i have determined
that a program "rasmng" when i kill this application the idle transfer
stops. should i delete this operation?
