SVCHOST taking 99% of CPU time...why?

I've been having this prob for some time. After boot, Windows Task Manager
reports that SVCHOST is taking 99% of CPU time. I have to reboot several times
before it stops happening.

Anyone have a similiar experience?

Running W2k with Svc Pack 4. This also happens with Svc Pack 2.

Desperate.
