chipping in my 2cents.

SVCHOST.EXE, at least recently, been popping up on Win2k machines because of
the blaster worm.

When's the last time you updated windows?
when's the last time you updated your AV (if applicable)?
When's the last time you checked for an update for spyware?

Update the puppy, I bet it's some sort of malware/virus/spyware on your
system.
