svchost.exe

Anyone know what svchost.exe is? When on-line, mine
generates errors, and must be shutdown - a report is sent
somewhere! I've tried to download SP4, no luck, can it be
purchased on a CD-ROM?
 
i am having the same problem here. seems like it happens when i access certain websites. can someone help here?
