svchost.exe using 100% cpu

When I turn my computer on, everything seems to load ok, however once
the icons appear on my desktop, the start bar freezes and my cpu fan
goes on high. When I press cntrl, alt, del, I notice that one of the
svchost.exe files is using 100% of my cpu. When I hit end task, the fan
slows way down but my start bar is still frozen. I can start a program
by clicking an icon on the desktop, but not from the start bar. Can
someone please give me an idea as to what is happening. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Carey, but I can't access the internet with that computer. I am
using this computer to access the internet. Do you have any other
suggestions?

Sounds like you have a virus. Do an internet search for
startup programs and svchost.exe. I am pretty sure that
there is one kind that is a virus with a similar name
(one is legit and one is a virus) that takes up a lot of
your system resources. McAfee and Norton antivirus
should be able to clean it.

I had the same problem went to McAfee and downloaded a program to fix
svchost problem now After I rebooted I get only a black screen. The floppy
drive will not spin up and the cd doesn't act normal. I believe it took out
the bios . hard drive functions in another computer the monitor is locked
Black when disconnected the monitor menu will work until you plug it in back
to black. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
