svchost.exe memory usage

Guest

hello all
after i install windows xp pro with service pack 2, i found that in task
manager, the file svchost.exe allocates big amount of memory (about 27MB) so
i thought that my windows is infected with a virus or something is wrong.
is it normal that this service allocates that much memory for it after
installing windows?

There will be several instances of svchost.exe and yes it is not unusual to
see one instance using that much memory. You can use the free tool from
SysInternals called Process Explorer to see the properties of that instance
and most likely you will see several services associated with it. ---
