svchost.exe / lsass.exe errors - help

H

Hells

Last Saturday my computer (Dell Dimension 4300) was
working fine - I shut down as normal but on Sunday when I
turned it on I received the following error (at the logon
screen) :- "Svchost.exe - Application Error. The
instruction at "0x77f51c96" referenced memory
at "0x0000010". The memory could not be "written". "
When I clicked ok, I get the error again, when I click ok
a 2nd time the error changes to a "Lsass.exe -
Application Error" when I click ok a 3rd time it changes
back to the original svchost.exe error and on the 4th
click of ok the computer freezes and the only way to
switch it off is to pull out the power supply. When I
turned the pc on again the same error occured but I just
ignored it and it allowed me to log on. Everything seemed
to be ok (except for the fact that I had this error on my
screen) until I checked my network connections which had
disappeared. When I tried to check my network connections
the computer froze and once again I had to unplug the
power supply. The same happened when I tried to check my
task manager.
My pc was infected with the Blaster Worm virus in August
so thinking it maybe somehow related to that I ran some
virus scans but they showed nothing. I've started my pc
in safe mode and changed settings etc but that hasn't
worked either.
Has anybody any ideas what I could do next?? Any help
would be gratefully excepted! Thank you!

Hello,

This does sound very much like a Blaster variant. It is possible you have
been hit with a new variant or it was never cleaned properly.

Since SVCHOST.EXE is crashing, search for SVCHOST.EXE on your system and
make sure you have Hidden files showing. SVCHOST.EXE should only be in the
Windows\System32 directory and the Windows\System32\dllcache directory. If
you have it in another location, please post the location on your drive.

You can also run various online scan tools to verify your current AV
softwre such as Stinger.exe from http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ or
Freescan from www.mcafee.com, it is a link at the bottom.

Best regards,
