"svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows.
You will need to restart the computer.
An error log is being created"

I receive this error message within 2 mins of starting
MS Internet Explorer.
It disables .dlls, so, for example, I cannot print, drag &
drop, cut & paste and Excel gives an error and closes.

I am running Windows 2000 Prof v5.0 sp2 and Outlook
Express 6.0.2800.1106 sp1.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I am trying to find out if it problem specific to my setup,
or if it a symptom of one of the bugs that are plagueing
Microsoft at the moment.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Open Taskmanager and look for the msblast.exe- or mspatch.exe-proces. Kill
it and go to www.sophos.com to get the removaltool. After that install
ms03-026 from microsoft to prevent from happening again.
After that install SP4.

Hi! and Help!!!

I have had the same message and I THINK that it started
when I attempted to install SP6. I have never installed a
service pack before. Tried several time and finally got
to the agreement page but then nothing happened (or so I
thought.) Then I started getting the error message below.

Went back into the update site and tried to install SP4
(SP6 was no longer on the list.)
I did try to find SP 6 on Cdrive with no success.
According to MS I have installed it but have not been able
to find it!

So installed SP4 and 5 hours later when it should have
finished I get an error saying the installation failed.

Since that time, I am unable to access MS Office, cannot
print, 'narrator cannot find sound card.... Need I
continue?

I am very new at this type of problem solving and I do not
have anyone nearby who can help me so PLEASE help yet keep
it 'simple stupid'.

Your answer below, Mariana. Where is Taskmagager? By
kill I gather you mean delete etc.

Thanks in advance from one who is ready to throw out the
computer.

SP6??? W2K's latest SP is SP4.

Taskmanager can be reached by Ctrl-Alt-Del, then choose Taskmanager. Go to
tab Processes and see if you can find the msblast.exe- or mspatch.exe
proces. If you find it, click it and click End Proces.

Duh! That Task Master. Oh well...
I looked and cound not find either msblast.exe or
mspatch.exe
(The SP6 I think that was actually MSN6...)
Have read that several people have had problems installing
SP4 if they were on SP1. Am awaiting the correct dll file
to delete or rename. I gather that I will have to remove
some shortcuts from the Startup folder and then will need
to re-install something.
I guess I will have to take it a step at a time. Rather
frustrating as this is all new for me but what a way to
learn.

Thanks for the information.
