Svchost.exe going crazy on startup

When I start XP Pro I get one svchost.exe (Local Service)
process that just goes by itself and won't stop(eats up
memory). Needless to say windows will not finish loading
unless I end this process. It has something to do with
my networking side since I can manually disable the
service SSDP and it stops. What's going on?

Some viruses use svchost.
Tryin doing a full system scan with uptodate antivirus.
Do a spyware scan with adaware/spybot.
See if either of these help.

I run McAfee 7.01 Pro and found one the other day.
Cleaned it and run again(good). Done the Spybot S&D and
Adaware 6 (both good). Should the system return to
normal after the virus is cleaned/deleted? If not, do
you know what file would be corrupted?

Thanks.
