svchost.exe error!

I just upgrade OS from windows 98 to windows 2000. After 2 hr of using
through online my computer seem to be affected by virus. This virus
seem to relate to svchost.exe. I got that warning issue. Then about 5 or 10 ot
20 minutes, the computer stop. Nothing moved. Including mouse and keyboard.
What is the best way to solve this problem? Since I don't have DSL line,
I can't download big program to solve this virus problem. CAn I solve
this by using regedit program?
