svchost.exe error for winxp pro

I have a windows xp pro with sp2. I am getting svchost.exe error which is
“The instruction at 0x10001e39 referenced memory at 0x02c82000. The memory
could not be read.†I have this dell computer for a long time and never had
an issue until this svchost.exe error start popping up 3 weeks ago. I did
try REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL but got error message “Load Library WUAPI.DLL failed.
The specific module could not be found.â€

Turning off Automate update, restarting my computer, and getting windows
update from MS website did not help either, because I got error message that
“Automatic updates are turned off. Contact your system administer for helpâ€.

I found couple of discussions regarding this issue in this forum, but I am
afraid to apply hotfix package 916089 or change my registry entries because
most of the solutions are form year 2007 and I do not know what side effect I
would get if I use those solutions.

Because of this issue my computer is running slow, my ie6 start crashing
down, and Symantec End point protection icon is no longer on the desk top
pan. Please help me to resolve this issue. Thanks.

I recently "fixed" my PC with a similar problem, with another Symantec
product. My problem was cause be a damaged Norton Internet Security
2009. Part of my fix was to completely uninstall this software along
with my other Norton products and LiveReg / Live Update softwares.
Then, I needed to purge my XP of all the 'leftover" Norton settings
from my registry.

Also, would you happen to have a Logitech QuickCam?
