SUWIN Document

In Windows ME, version 4.90.3000, there's a Restoration feature with three
(3) choices, a. delete all files and completely reformat hard drive, b.
delete only Windows, an reinstall Windows, or c. just Restore or Replace any
files that are corrupted or missing in Windows ME. To do this, one has only
to put the 2nd Restoration Disk in the CD drive, reboot, and the computer
will go to this feature with choices automatically.

With the version of Windows ME, version 4.90.3000, that have, when ever I
try to use the c. feature, i.e. just Replace or Restore missing and/or
corrupted Windows ME files, about 3/4 of the way through the process of
Restoration, I receive--Every time I try it--an Error Message that indicates
that the SUWIN file is either corrupted itself, or there's problems working
with that file and Window's ME Resoration must be IGNORED or CANCELLED.
Nonetheless, the proces at 3/4 done can not completer, and because I must
stop what's been happening, all of Windows is screwed, and the end result is
I must do a complete Re-format anyway--something I was trying to avoid
because it's such a lengthy process for me with all the application I have
and the size of my system.

Point: Can anyone tell me what the problem is? Is it a faulty Windows ME
Restoration Disk? Because when I first bought the system and the software,
this particular feature worked well. Or, lately, I've been wondering that
if I had done a completer or thorough Scan and then a Defragmentation prior
to using feature c. of the Restoration feature, then maybe SUWIN wouldn't be
corrupted? Bottom line is, feature c., i.e. Just Replace and/or Restore
missing and/or corrupted files in Windows ME doesn't work for my Restoration
Disks and I always receive this Error Message: SUWIN blah, blah, blah,
"IGNORE or CANCEL."

Please help.

P.S. If anyone can help, and if you have the time, I'd appreciate an e-mail
reply. In advance, thank you.

1) Check for finger prints on the CD. Can you copy this file off of the CD
yourself if you use Extract to pull it from its Cab file?

2) Try one of the WindowME newsgroups, perhaps
microsoft.public.windowsme.setup. They should be able to help you better.
This group is for the Access Database program.
