SUS Client Configuration

Tom

I have my SUS server setup and getting updates from the
Microsoft site ok. The problem is I cannot get the clients
to pull from my server instead of the MS website. I have
configured the local group policy settings:
Configure Automatic Updates: Enabled
Specify intranet MS update service location: http://<my
server>/
and checked the registry settings in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Wind
owsUpdate\AU, they are correct.
Is there something I am missing?
Thanks a ton!

Are you in Active Directory or NT4 Domain?

If you're in NT4 Domain, you must edit registry of your
clients. In Active Directory, you have to edit/create GPO
and configure windows Update in the GPO.

Hey Tom,
Quick Question. Why are you editing the registry instead of using GPO?
I tried to do the same thing and found that it was easier to use the Group
Policy Editor to edit the WU Features. I also couldn't get ti to connect until I
used GPO.

Try using GPO instead and edit the local machine policy to point your local
machine to the SUS.

Hey Charles,

I'm using SUS in a mixed Windows Enviroment. I don't use Active Directory but
have SUS installed on a seperate W2K server (The others are NT4). I am still
able to connect my W2K and XP machines using GPO (editied on the local
machine)to connect to the SUS and all updates are going well.
I am not be able to administer the other W2K and Xp on the network using Active
Directory (which is probably why editing the registry using scripts is
employed)but they can still be setup for SUS useage.
