I want to purchase Windows 2000! How long is Microsoft going to support it?
Dave.

What do you mean by "Support?" Do you mean how long will they continue with
security fixes? I suspect for a very long time. The official word is
support dies in a year or two. But if Industry does not incorporate it then
much longer I'm sure. They are still providing security fixes for NT 4 and
No Microsoft doesn't support that anymore. So what do you mean by
"support?" Can you still buy it? Not from Microsoft. It is not included
on any more new PCs. I doubt you can buy it Retail? Maybe but best bet are
these online auctions like eBay.

Yes I meant security fixes ect. You can buy it anyplace that sells software.

That is very expensive. You can buy Retail brand at eBay mch cheaper. Just
watch out for OEMs. They are no different than retail but usually they are
specific to the make and model of the system. Future OEMs will not install
on different systems then the mfg they were designed for. But Windows 2000
really shouldn't have an issue. It's an excellent Op sys have fun with it.

As for the Security releases for it use Windows NT 4 as a guideline.
Microsoft is still chugging them out for NT4. Remember the support is
dependent on Commercial demands. If commercially there is a demand
Microsoft will listen.

I like to build and test so I do a lot of clean installs, and can`t do it
with XP.

yes you can- as long as the system is the same one that you
authenticated the XP with, you can wipe/reinstall many times.

Thanks I`m going to buy it.
