I bumped my keyboard and/or mouse, and a super-sized icon appeared on my
desktop, in the form of a circle, divided like a pie. Clicking on one segment
starts Word, on another starts Excel, etc. Click on the center, it minimizes,
right click anywhere on the desktop, and it re-appears. It is always on top,
and won't go away. Right-click now won't do anything except bring up this
supericon. What is it? How do I get rid of it? If I decide I want it back
(ugh!) how would I do that?

This sounds like you have some sort of third-party "launcher" installed.
A lot of laptops come with that sort of thing. Or it may have come with
your keyboard software. Since you didn't tell us anything about your
computer, you'll need to look and see what you have installed. You can
also start Task Manager and see what programs/processes are running.
Use Google to research what you find.

I wish I could, but I rebooted, and the thing disappeared, and I can't get it
back. It was a circle about 1.25 inches in diameter, divided into 8(?)
segments, labelled "Word," "Excel," "Explorer," "Access," and others. The
center was a small circle with an "X" in it, which minimized the icon. It
appeared dark blue, and rolling over one of the segments changed it to a
brighter color. Since it is gone, I can't use the other idea of using the
task manager to identify it. But thanks for responding.

Do you, by chance, have a Logitech mouse or keyboard? If you have a mouse, do
you have their enhanced drivers installed? If yes, then you might have gotten
their application launch icon started. I had this installed with Logitech's
MouseWare and configured for the middle mouse button once.
