Summing calculated values

Hi,
I have a column where the values are calculated by a formula
very similar to.. (=IF(A1<B1,"Less",IF(A1=B1,"Equal","More"))

I want to sum these calculated values but a simple =SUM(Cnn:Cyy) gives zero

Actual types in values will work

any ideas
