Sum column up to a given cell

I would like to enter a formula into a cell that sums all values above it in
that column until it reaches the cell itself.

In other words, I keep track of the sum of values in a column (in let's say
cell A25), where I sum everything from above in the column (A1:A24). I then
insert new row 25 - I would like the sum column (now A26) to include A25 in
the sum range automatically.

Is there a way to do this? Thank you very much!

Put "SUM" one more row down. So A26 is SUM(A1:A25) but leave A25 blank.
Now insert at A25.

Put "SUM" one more row down. So A26 is SUM(A1:A25) but leave A25 blank.
Now insert at A25.

But also set the row to a color like Blue or Red (take your pick) and reduce the
row height so it looks like a line on the sheet. This will stop (well
discourage) you from trying to put data in that row. Now your inserts will
always be in the range and so it gets extended.

Another possibility in Ex 2003 may be Lists.

Thanks a lot - that was a useful advice to drop the row height.
The thing is I won't be personally updating this - so making the row very
tiny will discourage others from inserting data into it.
