sum after vlookup?

I have all the dates of the year in a column with a $ amount asociated with
the date in the column next to it. How I imagine this working is vlookup a
Starting date and then sum the following 2 dates after including that day (3
total days). Any idea if there is a preexisting function that will do this?

Thanks in advance. Here's an example...

I want to be able to enter a date (3/5/08) and a number of days (3) and the
formula will sum the dollar amount associated with 3/5/08 and the 2 days
after 50+70+120 and return the sum $240.

3/4/08 $100
3/5/08 $50
3/6/08 $70
3/7/08 $120
3/8/08 $60

The best advice I can give is to search a newgroup that deals with Excel-
