suggestion to the idiots at microsoft

You may have to. In true traditional form my laptop packed up just after the
warranty expired, great engineering by Toshiba. Anyway, I just bought a new
one, can't get XP so stuck with Vista. So here's my suggestion to Microsoft.
Give people the option of loading their already owned version of XP instead
of muscling the PC manufacturers to force your unfinished bug infested
experimental O/S's on us.

It is the manufacturer who makes the decision as to what operating system to
supply - if they supply any at all. Microsoft long ago lost the muscle to
"demand" that a certain version of one of their operating systems be
installed on a computer. Take it up with the manufacturer.

I'd think differently. All they have to say is - previous version(s) is
discontinued. After all, it's their products and they can determine when
and for how long to supply it.

Obviously, it will include more considerations into when to discontinue a
product, but to say it has no "influence" on how OEMs to carry which OS, it
is not likely the case.

Of course, one can also say that OEMs have a choice for not carrying Windows
at all, but we all know that it's impossible under the current market
condition.

They are more cautiously using their muscle now but it is there and will be
there for many years.

Simple question Chris. Have you given vista a personal go or just following
the trend to knock a new system. Can you not format and load XP. Microsoft
will allow it if you register it by phone.

The manufacturer decides what OS to include, and are unlikely to produce
drivers for previous OS's if they have decided to provide the most current.
If you already own a retail version of XP, if you uninstall it from the
previous installation, nothing from Microsoft prevents you from installing
it on one machine. Just make sure your warranty isn't violated and the
drivers are available from the manufacturer.

Be serious, Richard, you don't think someone is going to contact the
manufacturer when it so much easier to come here and whine, do you?
<sigh>

If the OP was other than a drive-by troll he would have already
contacted the manufacturer.
