I got a dell dimension with xp and I just started getting problems with my
system freezing. I defraged my c drive, made sure my connections are snug,
did a spywhere scan but haven't detected anything unusual. My drive have
enough free space to not be problematic, so that is not an issue. The freeze
usually is when my computer is not in use at the moment. If anyone could give
me some advice to try to eliminate this problem I would appreciate.

Have you eliminated hardware problems (will it run memtest86 overnight
with no errors? Will it pass prime95 torture tests??).

Since you seem happy to peer inside, check the motherboard for bulging
or leaking capacitors too.

Did you change anything right before the problem started? If you restore
to that point (assuming you can, or want to) does the problem go away?
Do you have hibernation (screen savers, power saving, etc. etc.) turned
OFF?
