"Suggest names while completing To, Cc, and Bcc fields"

I'm running Outlook XP under Windows XP Pro.

"Suggest names while completing To, Cc, and Bcc fields" is one of the
Advanced E-mail Options when sending a message. I have it checked.

I have friends with two addresses, one of which is from an account they no
longer have. When I begin typing their current address, I'm offered both it
and the one no longer in use, which I have deleted from my Address Book.
I've deleted their working address as well, but this makes no difference: I
still get both addresses suggested when I begin typing their address.

How can this be remedied?

The AutoComplete feature in Outlook 2002 and later works against addresses
you have previously typed in; it doesn't work against your Contacts. If you
want to delete individual entries from the AutoComplete cache, start typing
in a name and when the list comes up, point to the entry you want to delete
(so that it's highlighted) and press Delete. To delete the whole cache and
start over, look for a file with an .NK2 extension and rename it or move it.
Outlook will start a new cache file the next time an e-mail address is typed
into the To: box. Note that since you're using Windows XP, you'll need to
search in hidden and system folders to find the .NK2 file (it also helps to
have file extensions visible).

While deleting a name or two in this fashion works, we
found a utility that is great. Try looking at www.dcs-
imaging.com/products.htm. It lets you open the NK2 file,
tests for valid e-mail addresses, and gives you the
ability to sort and delete unwanted entries....entries
you would have long forgotten were even in there!

Good luck!
