Suddenly unable to search newsgroups

Suddenly, on 2 different PCs, I am unable to search newsgroups. Any search,
even one very common word, like "error" comes back as "your query "error" did
not return results", etc.

Anyone else seeing this?

Both PCs are XP, SP2 w/Norton 2006. Privacy and ad & popup blocking are
OFF. However the lack of search seems to be coming from Microsoft's server,
not the PC.

Stop using the web interface to the newsgroups, and your life will be a lot
better. You can use a news client, such as Forte Agent, Thunderbird, or
even Outlook Express, . It's a lot easier to do nearly everything that way.
You can mark messages to be watched, filter the views so you can see replies
to your posts easily, and search.

The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can
subscribe to as many groups as you like; no authentication is required.

That said, it's often faster to search Google Groups for archived newsgroup
posts, than anything else (certainly better than searching on Microsoft
itself).

Ok, thanks. But I'm still mystified that the web search doesn't seem to work
- it used to - as tedious as it was..

I couldn't really say, sorry. I don't use the web interface as I think it's
clunky as hell.

I second Lanwench's recommendation. The web interface is lousy. Here is a
link with info on how to setup Outlook Express for newsgroup access.

Windows Live is why.
