Sudden Slowdown

I have a computer running XP, and it suddenly
slowed to a crawl. The Task Manager shows 10-12% activity
when the computer is idle. Any activity, even moving the mouse,
causes the computer to slow down, and the CPU to go to
almost 100%.

Nothing has been changed or added that I can see.

This happened to me on another computer.

Any ideas what's going on here?

Run spybot and/or ad-aware; do a complete virus scan with up to date
definitions; check the following site:

I've done all that. Spybot finds nothing, and there are no viruses.
No unusual processes appear to be running.
