Sudden shutdown

A couple of times in a week my xp pc suddenly shuts down. When restarting it
get a CHKDSK. Although enabled I don't get any information (bleu screen,
event log..). Could a HDD failure do this without leaving any trace?
Thanks for any advise

This is normal, when restart occurs after abnormal shutdown.
Although enabled I don't get any information (bleu screen, event log..).

Insufficient information: we do not know how your utilities are configured.

Probably not: but HDD failures seldom cause unordered shutdown:
a more likely cause is a failing Power Supply Unit (easily tested and
cheaply replaced in a desktop.)

Hardware failure could do this and commonly does. If it is automatically
restarting (your post is ambiguous in this regard), change that behavior so
you can get a Stop Error (blue screen). Then you can research it at the
link below or post the details here for more help.

Control Panel>System>Advanced>Startup and Recovery>Settings and under System
Failure uncheck "Automatically Restart".

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts with
known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data backed up
before you take the machine into a shop.
