I suddenly lost my connection to my cable modem on one
computer but surf with no problems with another. I've
checked my tcp/ip setting and IE advance settings. I'm
supposed to obtain my IP setting automaticaly but after
trying to connect my computer always seems to try to
connect using the Alternate Configuration. I followed the
steps suggested in Article 299357 "How to Reset Internet
Protocol" but it had no effect at all. I don't have the
option to delete the Local Area Connection. I set up a
second nic and Local Area Connection2 but had the same
result. Any suggestions would be helpful.

See if this article pertains to your situation:

If you determine that your Winsock2 was corrupted, there
is a good chance that some spyware may have been responsible.
If so, you will be interested in this article:

I followed the instructions in both articles that you
mentioned. After deleting the winsock and winsock2
registry keys and reinstalling tcp/ip I am still having
the same problem. I have a partitioned hd(drives C and E)
with win xp home on each. I have been booting up on my E
partition and only tried the steps in the acticle on E.
Could this contribute to the problem?
