Sudden alert

I was browsing the internet yesterday (everything I was doing at the time I
had done before with no problems) when a critical alert came up stating that
some components of firefox were being blocked from working properly so I just
told it to unblock what was blocked and went on (although I did do some scans
to check for any nasties just in case) but this has never happened before and
I've been using firefox for over a month now and have never gotten an alert
like this before.
Just for note I haven't made any changes to the browser although I did
reinstall yahoo toolbar since I had to remove it after it was altered when
visiting a typo squatter site by accident apart from that nothing has changed
(and just for extra note I was in the beginnings of starting a video in the
browser (using windows media player 11) but as with other things this has
never been a problem).
I have has this kind of silly alert before but with windows firewall
stopping nero showtime from accessing the hard drive which is kind of silly
as the programme is installed on the same hard drive it was trying to block
it from gaining access to.
Is this anything I should be worried about or is this just a bug that I
shouldn't give a second thought

"Did some scans" with what? Please review the procedures at this link:

If you didn't follow similar steps, including the preparatory and
finishing work and scanning in Safe Mode, and use similar tools, please
do so to make sure your machine is clean.

I scanned with spybot and windows defender plus I have macafee siteadvisor
for firefox installed and whenever I'm in doubt about a site I always check
the siteadvisor analasys for the site first before I go there and the only
nasties I've had in my computer since it was connected to the internet two
months ago was two temp files relating to hotsearchbar and those were removed
by spybot.
As I'd already mentioned the alert said that some components of firefox were
being blocked and as I can recall there is no malware that can attach itself
to firefox and I have it setup so that I'm notified if any extentions are
trying to install themselves (although I do remember that there was another
warning about a certificate for a site I wasn't even on at the time but as I
was on a forum at the time it could've been from an image that was from that
site plus it only showed up once).
The only other piece of software I'd installed before this was windows
defender so I'm not sure if that is the cause.
Also as I'd mentioned windows media player has started to run (but within
the browser itself) at the exact time the alert came up so I'm not sure if it
was this that was being blocked at the time.

Certainly malware can affect Firefox in Windows. In fact, there is a
password vulnerability exploit out right now.

Your posts are extremely difficult to read since they are dense and
pretty much stream-of-consciousness. I rather think the blocking and
alerts are not coming from the Windows Firewall but rather from some
other security/antivirus software but frankly it is too difficult to
tell from your posts.

Review what security/antivirus software you have installed and look at
the firewall component's options.

I know that the warning couldn't have come from windows firewall as any
alert from that area since the alerts from that area would be marked windows
security centre and wouldn't have the critical alert I had but this is what
security software I have currently installed.

Firewall
Windows firewall (I did use PCGuard which was supplied by my ISP as my
firewall but it used too much memory on my then 256MB computer so it had to
be removed but it may be re-installed)

Anti-virus
AVG Free Edition V7.5

Anti-spyware
Spybot s&d V1.4

Just for note I did have windows defender installed as well but as it was
annoying me with it's unscheduled scans that I removed it but as this alert
only showed up after windows defender was installed then I would have to
guess that it was the culprit in this matter.
