I have successfully installed Windows Service Pack 2 on a system with
Windows XP Pro with Norton System Works 2003.

It will require you to install the Norton WMI Patch for NAV2004.
Your can download the patch here:

http://www.neowin.net/staff/RadishTM/Norton_WMI_Update.rar

You will need a decompress utility (WinRar, etc.) that supports .rar.

Download the patch to a temp directory and Decompress the file. Double click
on the file SYMWMI04.MSI. This will install the patch.

Download Windows Service Pack 2 from here:

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us

I have used this on to systems without a problem. If you can't wait for
Symantec fix, use at your own risk.

It worked for me on two computers. Why Symantec has not publicly
released this patch for NAV 2003, 2002, is unknown.

Probably because they want us to upgrade to NAV 2004/2005.

Will this patch works with NAV 2002/2003 as well? Thanks.

Works with NAV 2003; haven't tried it with NAV 2002 and SP2

Need to add a caution to this: this live update Security Center patch adds
a module SymWSC.exe: after a mere 6 hours, this module had consumed 140MB+
YMMV. Anyhow, I have now uninstalled NAV 2003 and am happily running NOD32.

I just checked my system. The file (symwsc.exe) you claim that used
140mb, is only 302K on my system . How did you come up with that
figure? The entire NAV 2003 program and all its modules don't even
come close to being 140mb. I've had the patch running for several
days now.

I suspect there was something else going on in your system causing the
excessive usage of space. That certainly is not normal, not even for
a Symantec application.

I wasn't talking about the size of the file (which was around 300K on my
system), but memory usage as evidenced in task manager for SymWSC.exe. And
I could watch it growing by the second. Perhaps I should have been clearer.

I have no idea if it is normal, but I have happily abandoned NAV and passed
on to other pastures (NOD32) so have not bothered investigating further. I
just felt I ought to report what was happening since I had previously said
it was working fine.

OK, thanks. That clears the air a bit. I just went to task manager
and monitored the symwsc.exe process for awhile. It was showing
around 7000K and steady. I'll keep an eye on it though.

Regards.
