SubForms Adding records

I am trying to add records on a subform that is displayed as a data set
view. When I type the first character of the first field I get this error
"This property is read only and can't be set." Then a new record is added
and the "Dirty Pencil" appears.. What have I forgot to change??
 
Perhaps a Default Value property for one of the read-only fields?
