my host server provides site statistics in a directory
called: _STATS ( note the underscore )

when I publish, by FP2003 always prompts me
saying that all these files exist on the server but do not
exist on my computer - do I want to DELETE them.....

** this is fast becoming a pain !!

I have tried to make a _STATS directory on my
disk based version - and make it a sub-web, so that all
these statistic files will be ignored...
.... but I cannot create a sub-web that starts with a underscore

That's correct
- subwebs can not be _hidden
Contact your host and see if they are willing to rename the _stats folder so you can convert it to a subweb

IMHO
any host that adds "admin" folders to your FP extended site (w/o provision for converting them to subwebs in FP), doesn't appreciate
how the FP SE work

Do the filenames in the_STATS folder change? If not, create files in your
local _STATS folder with the same names, and mark them as "Do Not Publish".
(Right click on the file and choose from context menu).

It is unlikely that the host will change the folder name to STATS, allowing
the conversion to subwebs, but you could ask...

Finally, in Remote Site View, you could drag these files into your local
site - only slightly less painful than the deletion dialogue, especially if
they are big files.

thank you

** since these are site statistics - they change daily
I will ask the host............
