stylus color 3000 doesn't print black

my color stylus 3000 wont print anything approaching black

it wont print type from word documets (or anything else that asks the
printer to print absolute black)

I HAVE RELOADED THE SOFTWARE/DRIVER

I have a new ink cartridge and it is puched all the way in

I have run a test to check the pattern and I get color lines/graphcs
and and no black "ines/graphs"

have cleaned the heads at least 12 times

I ran a 180 dpi self diagnostic and got nothing on the paper

when I print a photoshop graduated box on a grey scale i get lite
greys but not the real dark ones and no black (in otherwords i have
made a box that runs down the page and used the graduated filter to
cause the paint to gradually get darker as the color reaches the
bottom of the box)

IS THE DARK BLACK NOSSLE A DIFFERENT ONE THAN THE ONE USED FOR GREYS ?

IF THE DARK BLACK INKS ARE DISPERSED WITH A DIFFERENT NOZZLE THAN THE
LIGHT GREYS AM I CORRECT IN THINKING THAT THAT JET IS STILL BLOCKED?

if youre there thanks for the help

if I need service on this machine in the SF bay area, where do I go?

I wouldn't get too excited about being able to print grey in this situation-
your grey may actually be a very faint blue.
From what we have seen on the international news lately, the easiest thing a
guy from San Francisco could do about this problem is get his husband to
drop the printer in to the Epson workshop :)

Benny thanks for responding but I didnt get your reference to
"drop the printer in to the Epson workshop" can you clarify ?

Here (Sydney Australia) the Epson wholesalers/distributors have their own
repair centre- I always try to take equipment to the manufacturer for
service if it is available. Our Epson guys are used to servicing the
professional range of large format printers, which a street corner computer
shop, no matter how good they are at general servicing, may not see very
often.
