I use TopStyle to edit style sheets. I make TopStyle my
default editor for css files, and then open and edit the
style sheet in Top Style. I can see the changes upon doing
F12 (preview) but when I make subsequent edits in TopStyle
I cannot see the edits. I have to close the browser window
and do another F12 to see the changes. This is really
tedious. Is there a visual editor that I can incorporate
into Frontpage to see external style sheet edits more
easily?

Thanks in advance,
Debbie

This is under Tools, Options, Configure Editors, right?

Then you double-click the file in FrontPage and TopStyle
opens?

No, but when you open a file in an external editor (i.e.
TopStyle), FrontPage actually exports a temporary copy of
the file for the editor to use. To see the effect of a
change, you have to not only save it in the external
editor, but give FrontPage the focus.

If you're doing that but never leaving Preview mode, the
page may simply need refreshing. To refresh a page in
Preview mode, right-click the Preview area and choose
Refresh from the shortcut menu.

sidebar issue:

I've used FP/Topstyle to edit while online, Topstyle wants to create that temp file, which is annoying because it keeps prompting my WHERE to save it to (repeatedly) - it only does it while editing live, not on local.

A one time prompt is ok, but everytime I save a change it does it...really annoying. If I say NO, then of course the changes aren't saved to the css.

Is there a way around this, ya think?

btw...HI

Rob

You will always have to refresh or reopen the page in browser preview regardless of which css editor
you use, because preview in browser writes the files to the browser cache. So they must be
"refreshed" to render the changes properly.

Have you tried using F5 to refresh the browser page instead of closing and reopening it.??
Works for me.!!!

I'm previewing the changes made in TopStyle on the page
created in FP2003 in an external browser, not within FP.
Nothing changes after I refresh the browser repeatedly.

Perhaps it's best to stick with the browser in FP for this
type of editing and then when satisfied with the style
view it in the external brower.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Debbie

I always use F5 to refresh my browser, it doesn't seem to
work after I save the css file in TopStyle without having
to clear my cache, or close the browser each time.

Ok, I've got it. The solution is to open the .css file
directly from TopStyle instead of opening it from FP. This
way I am making changes directly onto the style sheet
instead on some sort of temp file that FP sets up. Thanks
for all the responses. Debbie

Anytime a file is pass to a external editor or application from within FP, the file and the
application must be closed for the file to be updated in FP. The reason is that application is
provided with a temp file, not the actual file.

You need to close Topstyle for FP to update the CSS files and then re load or refresh your page in the browser
