Stupid shutdown message

I went to shut down WinXP Media edition (with all updates) and I got
the following message: "Do not turn off or unplug your computer.
Windows will shut down automatically."

Yeah sure.

It's been sitting there with that message for 2 hours now. It's on a
Dell Inspiron notebook computer, so pulling the plug will only put it
on battery and then when the battery runs down, then what?

C-A-D does nothing.

Stupid-ass message. I didn't do anything wrong. Another windows glich
to add to my collection.

either keep waiting and be patient, or press and hold the power button for 5
seconds.

Something to try:

Right click your desktop and select - New - Shortcut,

In the next screen type - Shutdown.exe -s -t 00

Name it Shutdown.

This creates an Icon on your desktop

and if you right click it you can change Icon and choose another Icon you
like.
