I bought SMB 10 b/c I thought it would reduce the steps for analog
capture(dvd/vcr player to make a DVD and then conversion program for use in
MovieMaker). However, when I captured a small test piece of video in mpeg,
the video was jumping. I figured since it was captured in mpeg, I could then
just import it into MM. When I tried to import it into a collection, the
green bar quickly moved across on top but nothing on the bottom bar. The
hourglass just kept whirling till I CtrlAltDeleted it about 10 minutes later.
)Window Media Player does play it, however.) I was told at Best Buy that this
program was similar to Dazzle but could also output.

Pinnacle support said that once I made it into a movie .avi I could import
it into MM but from reading other postings on the topic it looks like this
would also need to be converted to a different type of avi file.

CAN I GET ANALOG INTO MM BY USING STUDIO MOVIE BOX? PLEASE HELP-I NEED TO
MAKE A MEMORIAL VIDEO IN TWO WEEKS. THANKS

If moviebox will allow you to capture as DV.AVI then you can import it
directly to movie maker.
Movie maker will not work with mpeg 99.9% of the time.
Did moviebox not come with pinnacle studio? If it did this will edit your
mpeg file.

If not you have a few options.
Buy an mpeg editing programme such as pinnacle/Ulead videostdio/adobe
premeire elements. Then capture as mpeg and edit.

Convert the mpeg2 to a wmv file and use this in movie maker.

Buy a decent analogue capture device such as the advc range from canopus or
miglia direcotrs cut. These connect via firewire and you capture as a dv-avi
file using MM.

Yes, I can capture as DV.AVI. It does come with Pinnacle but I don't have the
time or energy right now to learn a different video program.

I am confused when you say that MovieMaker will not work with mpeg. Mpeg is
supposed to be one of the formats that it will accept.

Anyway, thank you for the information. I will try that and maybe that will
also improve the quality of the video produced.

If you can import as DV-AVI then do that. You won't need to learn another
video program since you can use the DV-AVI in Movie Maker.

Yes the information about Movie Maker says it accepts MPEG files and as far
as MPEG Type 1 files go sometimes it does. But more often than not MPEG
files end up causing various problems at different times during the process
so it isn't a good idea to work with them unless you have a lot of aspirin
and/or like headaches.

MPEG Type 2 files will not work at all with Movie Maker.

It does work with changing to DV-AVI. However, I had to use my hard drive on
my computer to receive it. When I used my external drive, a lot of frames
were dropped making it hesitate when played.

As I wrote previously, I still don't understand why MovieMaker will not
accept the Mpeg files created by Pinnacle's Studio MovieBox.Thanks again.

because it is not designed to work with them?

It's like saying my friends diesel car takes diesel, why won't my petrol car
work with diesel.

If you have a usb2 ext drive this is not designed to work continually at
high data transfer speeds. It is better to use a firewire drive to capture
externally. Otherwise capture to your internal drive adn then allow it to
transfer to your ext drive at it's own pace for editing.
USB2 has a burst speed rating of 480Mbps, whereas firewire can sustain
400Mbps

ok-I didn't realize that all mpegs were not created equal so your analogy
makes sense. Thank you. As far as gasoline goes, can you find something else
for us to use instead? :)

Myth Busters proved that old cooking oil will run a diesel engine perfectly.
That help? :)

I wish I could.. When I was at school and deciding what to do with my life I
thought back in 1976 that I'd like to be a fuel techonologist and find a
replacement for petrol......... then I changed my mind when I discovered I
hated sitting round waiting for the results of experiments
