Stuck on Applying Computer Settings

C

Cap

Windows 2000
SP 4

The system was prompted to install new MS Updates. Once
the installs were complete the system was rebooted.
Now the system will hang for approximately 30 minutes
at "Applying Computer Settings." After about 30 minutes
the logon screen will appear allowing logon.
The problem is not intermittent and no other detrimental
effects are apparent once the message disappear and logon
is available.
Any idea on what it could be continually trying to
applying and why it is unsuccessful?

I'm sure that there are ten thousand reasons this could happen, but I
experienced the same thing just before I had a hard drive failure in my
array.

p.s. It was an IBM drive. :]

Did you disable your virus software while updating - I think it is
recommended to do so? Have you checked for a virus, have you tried creating
a new user and logging in under new user? Also try disabling your startup
programs and start each program as you need it.

Cap,
Just a suggestion. Whenever you do an update or install any software, it is always
safest to not only close all apps, but to go in task manager and click the center
tab and end process all that you can. That way, there isn't any way you can get
hosed.

Stay Kewl,
