stuck in 640x480

Okay.. for some odd reason, upon starting up my computer,
my screen resolution had been changed from 800x600 to
640x480. This, obviously, made everything on
the screen large, out of place, and for the most part,
not fitting. I said, "Sure, no problem, I'll just go
change it." But unfortunately, when I went
to the Display settings, the slider bar that changes the
resoultion wouldn't move.. it had been made so large due
to the change in resolution, that it couldn't show the
whole bar, and therefore won't move. I'm stuck in
this godforsaken resolution, and I desperately need to
figure out how to fix it.

Right-click the desktop, select Properties. Settings tab, Advanced button,
Adapter tab - check that the correct Adapter type is listed for your
hardware. It's possible that something has corrupted your video card driver
and a default VGA adapter has been substituted. If this is the case, you
need to reinstall your video card driver.

Stace.

Reinstall / update the video card driver.

Time to ID your video card and/or onlboard video chipset and install the
XP drivers for it.

Hi, I have the same problem.
I have just installed a new hard drive on my HP laptop and I am now also
stuck in 640*480 which is a postage stamp in the middle of the screen!
Being a bit clueless around pc's I have no idea what drivers I have etc. (I
have though tried the advanced settings etc but they are all greyed out and
can't be shifted)
Can anyone help?

thanks

:
Download updated display adaptor drivers for your display adaptor and
install them.

If your not sure what display adaptor you have, right click on my
computer, click properties, then hardware, followed by device manager.

Next click on the + sign by display adaptors, double click on the option
linked to display adaptors and note down the name of the hardware.

Search on driverguide.com for divers with that hardware name and
download the lastest available.

Finally install them by going back into device manager, again double
click on your display adaptor, goto the driver tab, click update driver
, select the advanced option and point the wizard to the destion where
you downloaded the drivers, click next and finish. Restart if prompted.

Right click on your desktop, select properties and click on the settings
tab, you should now be able to change the slider from 640x480 to 800x600
(choose 1024x1280 if you can). Again restart PC if prompted.

And...

....Problem Solved!
