I can't solve this one! Can anyone offer some help?

Seeing the following every 5 mins in Event viewer:

I have read many posts about second NIC and it is disabled and unbound.
I have also checked :

I am unable to browse the NETLOGON or SYSVOL shares etc.

Hi Jim,

You've posted this earlier, haven't you?
Have a look at 290647 Event ID 1000, 1001 is logged every 5 minutes in the
application event log. And 258296 cannot access group policy objects event
id 1000 and event id 1001 logged.

Hi.

Yes.. I did. I didn't have much luck.

I actually reviewed those articles before also. In article 290647, I can
get to step 5 before I have a problem. All the NTFS permissions indicated
are correct. When I attempt to access the GPO options however, I get the
following dialogue box:

The domain controlloer for Group policy operations is not available. You
may
cancel this operation for this session or retry using one of the following
domain controller choices:
(radio buttons)
o The one with the Operations Master token for the PDC emulator
o The one used by the Active Directory snap-ins
o Use any available domain controller

I selected the last one and clicked Ok

The this message appeared:

Failed to find a domain controller. There may be a
policy that prevents your from selecting another
domain controller.

Details:
The network path was not found

I presume this is caused by the sysvol share not being available.

I also looked at 258296 - all my adapter settings appear ok.

This is really a troublesome problem.

I actually reviewed those articles before also. In article 290647, I can
get to step 5 before I have a problem. All the NTFS permissions indicated
are correct. When I attempt to access the GPO options however, I get the
following dialogue box:

The domain controlloer for Group policy operations is not available. You
may
cancel this operation for this session or retry using one of the following
domain controller choices:
(radio buttons)
o The one with the Operations Master token for the PDC emulator
o The one used by the Active Directory snap-ins
o Use any available domain controller

I selected the last one and clicked Ok

The this message appeared:

Failed to find a domain controller. There may be a
policy that prevents your from selecting another
domain controller.

Details:
The network path was not found

I presume this is caused by the sysvol share not being available.

I also looked at 258296 - all my adapter settings appear ok.

This is really a troublesome problem.

This is the server, right? One nic and using what to connect to the
internet?
Have you set options 003, 006 and 015 in DHCP-server, Scope options?
Have you checked your DNS-server configuration? In the Forward lookup zone
there should only be internal, local IP's.
Has the Reverse lookup zone a PTR-record for your server-IP?
Is the tab Forwarders enabled and does it only contain your ISP-DNS-numbers?
Is your AD-domain different from your internetdomain?

Hi Jim,

Why not use 2 nics and attach the router to your second nic?
Set those 003, 006 and 015 options. Your clients are set to obtain an IP and
DNS automatically from your DHCP-server, right?
Is your AD-domainname the same as your internetdomain? That would be a valid
reason to put an A-record for www. So get rid of it, because it's not the
same.
You're missing the right reverse lookup zone. You should have a subnet
looking like your server-IP, I don't think that 127.0.0.1 is your server-IP.
Yes, you need those Forwarders in DNS-server. How are you going to find the
internet?

can
get to step 5 before I have a problem. All the NTFS permissions
indicated
are correct. When I attempt to access the GPO options however, I get
the
following dialogue box:

The domain controlloer for Group policy operations is not available.
You
may
cancel this operation for this session or retry using one of the

domain controller choices:
(radio buttons)
o The one with the Operations Master token for the PDC emulator
o The one used by the Active Directory snap-ins
o Use any available domain controller

I selected the last one and clicked Ok

The this message appeared:

Failed to find a domain controller. There may be a
policy that prevents your from selecting another
domain controller.

Details:
The network path was not found

I presume this is caused by the sysvol share not being available.

I also looked at 258296 - all my adapter settings appear ok.

This is really a troublesome problem.
