Strange vertical white line in the middle of my screen

When my computer (Gateway laptop) is on and with any applicaiton, a vertical
white line appears in the ceter (top to bottom) on the screen.

You can try hooking up an external monitor to see if the problem appears
there as well. See this site for a discussion, (but no solution), of a
