Strange symbols in outlook

When I try to compose an e-mail message on Microsoft Outlook 2003, I have
noticed “pi†symbols at the end of each line and a dot in between all words
that I type. The symbols do not show up when you send or print the message.
Please help me to get my outlook back to normal.

Control - Shift - 8 while in a new message (or reply/fwd) window.
