strange shortcuts

C

charles cashion

I have a few shortcuts on my computer
c:\users\charles\Local Settings
c:\users\charles\My Documents
c:\users\charles\NetHood
c:\users\charles\PrintHood
c:\users\charles\Recent
c:\users\charles\SendTo
c:\users\charles\Start Menu
c:\users\charles\Templates
I guess that is eight.
They all have a few things in common.
(a)if you right click and select explore or open
you get the message "not accessible"
(b)if you select properties, it opens a typical
properties window but it does not
tell the target
(c)if you select sendto and sent it to your
favorite editor, it is blank.
Q? Why are the eight shortcuts there?
Charles

They are there to provide access for old software that doesn't know the
new Vista directory scheme. They are called junction points. Ignore
them :)

Thank you, Gene Bloch. I was just getting ready to search for something like
this and for some reason I clicked on your message before I clicked on All
Read. Providential, you might say.
Allen

Well, I used to live in Providence :)

I know the above info only from reading this newsgroup, by the way...
