Strange MSN/Windows Messenger connection issue

Hello,

Recently, my girlfriend's computer has developed a strange
problem with MSN, and I'm at my wit's end as to what could
be causing it.

She is able to log into messenger just fine, and everything
will work fine for anywhere up to 5 minutes or so, but then
it will start dropping messages, and generally not sending
data, until it disconnects her. She is then able to log
back in just fine and the process repeats. Video and
webcam chats will work just fine during this period, even,
but are cut off when she is disconnected.

She is on a campus network that has not had any problems
using MSN up to this week, and as far as I know, nothing
has changed. She is running Windows XP SP2, and we have
tried uninstalling and reinstalling MSN, running MSN
through a proxy server, clearing the cached data for MSN,
and basically anything else we could think of, yet the
problem persists.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Have you disables windows messenger,if not,go to add/remove,then select
windows components in the L.sub menu, scroll to bottom, uncheck the box
for messenger. The two shouldnt run side-by-side.

Yes, Windows Messenger is disabled, and only one of the
programs is running at any one time, but both programs have
the same connection problems when they are run.

Well, from some more investigations, thanks to MSN 7's
connection log, I've determined that the problem seems to
be that MSN is recieving a TCP socket error 10053, software
caused connection abort. However, I have no idea what
could be causing this, as all the other persistant
connections work fine on the computer.

Anyone out there have any ideas?
